hello, automatic writing anon again, specifically I’m thinking about analyzing and attributing meaning to different phrases that come up during automatic writing sessions. I know there’s usually more to look for but Im having trouble getting into the nitty gritty of analyzing text for divination. Specifically methods thereof, and things to consider more indepth if that makes sense?
I don't recall if I've dabbled much in automatic writing, but it basically sounds to me like you want to take repeating phrases, or at least notable phrases, and assign meanings to them so that you can then use those phrases in divination.
I'm guessing the method would be to derive special meaning during future writing sessions if/when those phrases reappear?
I feel like this entirely hinges on what you're trying to divine about, and the variables between divination sessions. So defining the things you'd like to read on is, IMO, a necessary first step.
Defining what kind of output you'd like to get is a necessary second step.
You can decide you want to read on everyday household matters, but if the outputs (meanings) you provide the machine are all excessively floral and poetic, it might be difficult to reduce them to the practical daily system you were imagining.
Or, for example, if you wanted to read on spirits of the Norse pantheon, then it would probably be best to go to that source material to shop for phrases of meaning for your divination stew, as opposed to Egyptian. Etc.
But my experience with developing divination system is that you can really start with whatever meaning you want, including more or less generating random meanings.
This is because the development of the system comes through refining meanings through repeated testing, tinkering, and troubleshooting.
Because divination systems can be complex, with many moving parts - probably especially in a system where you could automatically write anything - it's also not that helpful to overly develop, or marry yourself to, a single meaning that may not hinge with the rest of your system.
Generally I say just test it out; try anything and test it out. A single experimental reading can immediately start outlining the parameters and variables you need to hone in on. There's no use trying to find answers to hypothetical problems of analysis you haven't encountered yet; try working until you hit a problem, which will probably happen immediately, and then go from there.
Generate a few meanings that align to what you want to divine on, and the type of output you'd like to receive. Practice with them, see what inside of the system immediately breaks, and then put effort into fixing that.

Assignment 3 Development
For the third assignment, I’ve teamed up with some classmates, and will be working on one of their games; Running out of Time. To introduce the game, It is a puzzle platformer, where the player encounters the ‘echo’ of their past self, which follows the path they’ve taken in previous levels.
To develop the prototype to a minimum level to playtest efficiently, we decided that the main focus would be in level design and creation, as the main mechanic of the echo depends heavily on the design of the levels and the relation to the previous level. Remaining conscious of the time required to play a significant enough portion of the game to effectively playtest, we decided to create a total of 15 levels, or 5 each. As each level is the size of one screen, maximum 2 scrolling horizontally, they are quite short, so we considered this to be a reasonable amount to develop.
To begin my development process, I brainstormed to come up with some mechanics to be implemented, which allow the game to remain varied, but still simple enough to develop. Since I have a team this time, I was able to come up with the slightly more complex concept of a wall jump and platforms which can move vertically, with the possibility of being desynced. It was my responsibility to code the moving platforms, which I was able to do rather easily with my knowledge of GDevelop object variables, and the inbuilt mathematics functions allowing for simple sine wave movement, with variables adjusting the amplitude of the wave and allowing for a platform offset.

I was assigned the role of creating levels 11-15. To begin my process, I mapped out in photoshop the route the player would take through the level, including the position of any moving platforms, and ensuring the path overlapped with the previous levels’ in an interesting way to promote interaction with the main mechanic of the game. Following this, I simply built the levels in GDevelop, and played them to adjust for movement, jump distances, and to ensure they were beatable.

Also, since I was the member of the group with the most confidence in sprite editing/creation, I took on the role of artist for this project. The spritework my groupmate had used for the early prototype was effective, but lacking cohesion. In particular, they wanted to update the echo from a generic ghost into a more sinister reflection of the player. I took the player’s sprite, greyed it out to make it seem more like a ghoul, added bright orange eyes which stand out against the mainly grey background, and replaced its legs with a more ghostly trail to really communicate that detail. Additionally, I added an animation of red lines scrolling along the echo’s body, inspired by the green code lines used in the film The Matrix, to give it a touch of the futuristic, and to help it stand out even more on the screen. Given that I am not majorly involved in creating art usually, I think it turned out pretty good!

Researchers simulated chromatin using quantum annealing. Traditional gene regulation modelling methods have shortcomings. This method solves them.
Describe Quantum Annealing.
Quantum-annealing metaheuristic optimisation finds a system's low-energy states using quantum mechanics. Many exciting problems can be reduced to optimisation problems that involve exploring a landscape for the lowest point, like identifying minima in an energy landscape. Quantum annealing allows many coordinates due to superposition.
As annealing continues, the likelihood of being at any coordinate smoothly increases near deeper troughs. Quantum tunnelling also lets the system escape states that are not the lowest energy locations by going over high terrain instead of traversing it. QUBO is a problem type that can be used with quantum annealing, and it must be formulated this way. D-Wave software helps quantum devices address difficulties.
Quantum Annealing Chromatin Folding
Quantum annealing revealed stable, biologically realistic chromatin conformations for chromatin analysis. Researchers used quantum annealing to model and sample the complex energy landscapes driving TAD formation and chromatin shape.

Simulations of larger, more complex chromatin structures were possible using optimisation. Open border conditions allow chromatin chain ends to move freely, and coupling thresholding eliminates weak nucleosome connections. These precise modifications are needed to imprint complex models like full-scale models with parameters onto the D-Wave processor. Analysis showed that open boundary conditions consistently yielded shorter chain lengths than periodic boundary conditions.
Analysis of scaling behaviour showed how sensitive the model was to medium-scale model variables such maximal coupling length, nucleosome count, and epigenetic markers. Analysing binarized epigenetic mark datasets guides model building and validation. The researchers' recognition of the D-Wave Advantage machine's unique annealing functions stressed the importance of matching the model to the quantum hardware.
Quantum computing provides new insights into genomic organisation and gene expression from epigenetic modifications. It affects understanding biological processes and possibly developing new genetic disease treatments. Future study will examine more complex chromatin configurations and add biological components to the model.

Simple UI, Clear Feedback One of my biggest goals was building a clean interface that shows health, XP, energy, and ability status without cluttering the screen. I implemented a pause menu that uses a layered overlay and variable tracking to animate the UI elements. Players can use arrows to navigate and Return to select, and I made sure it feels snappy to match the game’s fast pacing.
Modular Player/Enemy Logic To make our game systems more manageable, I separated out all player and enemy logic into different event sheets using GDevelop’s event linking. This lets us keep things readable while still giving flexibility to update combat, movement, and AI wave spawning. We want each wave to feel distinct, and the later waves will ramp up with stronger or faster enemy types.
Player Movement & Combat Core The movement is drift-based, with friction so the player can still stop and control easily. Shooting is done via mouse aim, and we’ve designed the controls so players can boost, aim, and fire at the same time without awkward key binds. We’re aiming for a combat system that rewards mobility and smart positioning instead of just spamming fire.
DEVELOPMENT
So far, I’ve completed the pause menu system and UI logic. This includes the overlay visuals, input handling, animation switching, and variable-based state control. It took some iteration to get the menu navigation working smoothly, especially the part where pressing escape pauses the game and brings up a clean UI that can be interacted with.
Although I haven’t built the combat or wave mechanics myself, I contributed by helping set up the structure for both the player and enemy systems alongside my team. We’ve laid the foundation so the next steps like wave escalation, ability upgrades, or enemy pathing can be built without cluttering the core logic.
Next, I’ll focus on linking more UI feedback to in-game variables, like displaying health, XP, and energy. I’ll also start preparing for how the shop menu might work during checkpoint sectors.
Right now, we’re on track with our planned features. The game loop is shaping up, and the structure we’ve built so far is solid for layering more complexity over time.
